SPEEDSVILLE VOL. FIRE CO., INC. MEETING MINUTES

9 MAY2022 Called to Order at 19:00byPresident Michael Kilmurray

SECRETARY’S REPORT– Leanna Morgan read the minutes from previous meeting. Motion made to accept and approve. 1st  Mike Kilmurray 2nd  Rick MorganApproved by all.

TREASURER’S REPORT– Carol Leigh presented account status and list of bills for payment. Motion made to pay the bills, accept and approve accounts. 1st  Rick Morgan 2nd  Joe Wiiki Approved by all.

CHIEF’S REPORT– Fire Chief Dicky Weston reported 2 mutual aid calls- 1 Brush fire in Varna and a structure fire in Brooktondale.Y-T-D 10calls.  We received a donation of 36 cases of bottled water from the Berkshire Fire Department. Thank you Berkshire.  Training  on Tuesdays at 18:30.

Training Officer Ed Klopf reported some  E- Learning courses are available.  NY State fire training records are being updated.  Brush fire training will be given in Tioga County next weekend.

COMMITTEES– Jason Lanning scholarship committee received applications from Alice Frank, Corrie Hall, Haley Hammond and Brandon Randall. We decided to increase the amount to $500 and it was approved by all. Selection to be made by Carol Leigh and Leanna Morgan.

TURNOUT GEAR- Chief has a list of people who need new gear. Two sets of new T/O gear will be purchased for between $5000 to 6000 total, pending approval of the Board of Directors.

TRUCK REPLACEMENT–  Dick to head the committee.

Other committees will be put “on hold”, they include Dry Hydrant, Mutual Aid Plan, and updating the Standard Operating Procedures.

APPLICATIONS of NEW MEMBERS–  Lindsey Thibodeau

Election was held for the probationary members, including the following, Charles Morse, Chris Luszczek and Bobby Spencer were voted in as members.  Zeb Patterson’s probationary period is extended for 3 more months. Chief Weston will notify him by letter.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS-  Carol has some bank documents to be reviewed and signed.

NEW BUSINESS- Toilets are needed for the ball park, but prices are unknown. Carol will call Jim Cornell in Slaterville, as units are needed by 31 May for the Horseshoe League. The annual banquet will be held on 20 Sept.

Due to a new State law, we need to provide our department agendas and schedule to the public, including our Meeting Minutes.  We can comply by posting our information onto our website Speedsville.com.  Note—refrain from discussing politics.

Received an application to participate in the July 30  Newark Valley Community Parade, return form to Lambert’s Attic. Other local parades will be held in Candor on 4 July and Trumansburg on 27 August

Rick Morgan suggested that we celebrate our 60th Anniversary, based on starting this company in May 1962. It was decided to wait for later discussion.

President Kilmurray discussed the current member’s dues, which are now $2.50 per year. Most of our members have now served 20+ years and pay no dues. Mike said we need to discuss voting in Lifetime Members. We will discuss this topic next month.
