Central Chapel Rd. will be closed for bridge replacement, until about 1 Nov. We will be dispatched when Brooktondale is, as they will have a long detour and be delayed by going over Buffalo Road. New Caroline Code Enforcement Officer is Cody Williams. Rick met with Berkshire Commissioner Jim Simmons and Tioga County Fire Co-Ordinator Mike Simmons, Sr. to re-start discussions for a Mutual Aid plan with the two departments. Rick has researched the data provided by Simmons and has provided some suggestions to help improve their CAD data. Berkshire Fire Chief Mike Simmons, Jr. will work with us to implement an updated plan. Berkshire has their training on Tuesday nights and we will be invited to participate, so we can work on some water supply pre-plans. We also discussed the Berkshire Ambulance and their need for members.
Rick also met on 31 July with Caroline Supervisor Mark Witmer, DOER Rep. Justine Vann, Brooktondale Chief Chris Jordan and Slaterville members Greg and Beth Harrington. We discussed several things involved with the road closure and our response plan. Rick re-submitted his idea for a new dry hydrant to be installed in Jonathan Fairbanks pond on McGrath Rd. Town of Caroline will install a sluice pipe in the ditch for access, if accepted. It was suggested that we do some cross-training between the 3 departments and improve plans for joint responses. We will need to work out some details between Commissioners and Directors to allow for “other people” to drive and operate various vehicles. Situation was highlighted recently, during Brooktondale’s barn fire, when only two vehicles were on the road, due to lack of drivers. Same thing could happen in Slaterville and Speedsville, so cross training members, might help improve that situation.
COMMITTEES: Rick reported that he has been updating the Water Supply Guideline (SOG-8). He will include information from the new data from Berkshire for pond locations. Also, under the Mutual Aid plan, he is looking for new / or re-activating old members to get more fire people.
COMMUNICATIONS– Carol Leigh reported a letter from Mirabito Fuel Co., listing the codes we need to use to access their fuel pumps. Cards will be placed in each vehicle and you will need to use the last 4 digits of your home phone number, as the PIN.
Bid was accepted for us to do the Horseshoe League Picnic on 28 Aug. We will prepare food on 27 Aug at 9 am at the fire station.
NEW APPLICATIONS: None
OLD BUSINESS:Water test needed for the Van Riper Park Pavilion. Joe Wiiki and Carol Leigh will work to do it. Several members still need to complete the Tioga County Food Safety course. Carol Leigh has provided the necessary access info for us to do the on-line course.
NEW BUSINESS- Budget works needs to be done, so we can submit to the Town in October. Rick said he would like to include a Blitz Fire portable monitor, so we can have another safer option for firefighting. Reduce manpower needed to handle a large attack hose, cost about $1800.
Driveway has a pothole, that needs to be filled. Rick will contact Caroline Highway Supt. Spencer to see if we can get it repaired.
Meeting adjourned at 20:00.
ATTENDANCE:
